Food & Culture

The Palestinians are an ancient people with a wonderfully rich cultural heritage. Clearly they share aspects with some of their Arab neighbours in the Levant (i.e. Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Egypt), but they also have their own special and unique identity.

Food

There are a lot of good Palestinian cookery books around these days, e.g.:
In addition, PSC runs regular Cook-alongs where you can learn how to make some Palestinian dishes … Great fun and fantastic food!

And of course there are a number of very good websites from Palestinians, many of whom are in the diaspora and want to preserve a very special heritage, e.g.
www.anera.org/blog/palestinian-food-recipes/
intifooda.com

Zaytoun
Is a wonderful source of Palestinian products, including: olive oil, Medjoul dates, almonds, zesty za’atar, smoky freekeh and nutty maftoul.
And as a Community Interest Company, it has been founded to support Palestinian farmers through fair trade. 100% of their profits are reinvested into furthering this mission.

You can buy their products online (zaytoun.uk) or by emailing West Surrey PSC.
Cultural appropriation:
Israel is doing its best to pretend that things like hummus, falafel and couscous are Israeli!
Boycott any restaurants that’s serving Israeli couscous.
