Letter from Pupil #1
RE: We Need to Help People to Understand and Learn
Dear [Headteacher’s Name],
I'm writing because some students and teachers are feeling upset and worried about what's happening in Gaza and Israel.
We have seen pictures and stories online that are scary, confusing and horrifying, especially for us as children. It's hard for us to understand, and it makes us feel upset. Did you know that a Palestinian who has reached their 18th birthday would have survived 5 wars already? We care a lot about people, especially those who are suffering.
We think it’s important that our school helps in whatever way we can. We can help everyone feel supported in our grief and also in understanding things more clearly.
These are my ideas:
It's really important that everyone at school feels safe and happy, even when there are big problems in the world. If we start doing these things, our school will be a better place for all of us.
Thanks for thinking about my ideas.

- More help in speaking about our fear and sadness: let’s have people to talk to, like counsellors or staff, who can help us when we're feeling scared or sad about what we see in the news. Please encourage teachers to talk to their students and for students to talk to teachers. Not talking about it makes us feel like our school community doesn’t care about what is happening or how we feel about it.
- Drop in sessions: make a place where we can all talk about our feelings and thoughts about the news, in a kind and fair way.
- Talking to parents: tell our parents/guardians what the school is doing and how they can help us at home.
- Being a global community: encouraging us to help those in need and helping us do things like fundraising for the people in Gaza who are suffering.
It's really important that everyone at school feels safe and happy, even when there are big problems in the world. If we start doing these things, our school will be a better place for all of us.
Thanks for thinking about my ideas.
From,
